English for Young Learners

This unique program is specially designed for young learners between 6 and 11 years of age. What better way to introduce your child to English than through this fun & age appropriate course. Phoenix Academy provides the perfect study environment with a curriculum full of communicative and interactive learning, an international mix of children in each class. Young Learner classes are taught by our experienced specialist teachers at our safe & friendly campus.

General English

General English classes are available from Beginner to Advanced levels and comprise 23 hours of English language tuition per week (equivalent to 29 lessons) delivered in six-week modules throughout the year. The Academy’s comprehensive syllabus ensures that speaking, listening, reading and writing skills are covered every day with grammar, vocabulary and syntax studied in context.

The main features of the General English Course are:

  • Emphasis on fluency in oral language skills in the lower levels.
  • Accuracy and expanded vocabulary and complex structures (context and syntax) presented at the higher levels.
  • Interactive, student-centred teaching style.
  • Regular progress counselling.
  • 3 hours of optional Special Focus Classes or Self Study

This is an English program where the learning is flexible and is designed to get you where you want to be, while still leaving you time to enjoy your life! - Also, designed to prepare students for the IELTS General and Academic examinations, as well as improve General English skills

Academic English Program (AEP)

On completion of all AEP course requirements, you are eligible for direct entry at either an undergraduate or postgraduate level with no IELTS required at any of our University partners listed.

This study tour is designed for individual teenagers who would like to learn English while they are on their school vacation but would also like to have some fun. Optional activities include chaperoned visits to Caversham Wildlife Park, AQWA, the Perth Mint and others.

One to One - Business Communication

Business Communications is a highly intensive group coaching program aimed at professional clients needing to improve their level of English and become confident communicators in a global business context.

Course Content

Whilst “tailored” to the specific needs of the individual, the Business Communications course is structured to offer practice in key business contexts such as meetings, interviews, report writing and presentations. Additionally, the course provides an overview of how business is conducted in a global setting including modern management philosophy and workplace practices.

Content includes but is not limited to:

  • Social Discourse - speaking socially in business situations with an awareness of cross-culture, polite forms and register
  • The Effective Communicator - understanding the characteristics of a good communicator: active listening, body language, confidence, fluency, minimal L1 interference, global knowledge, persuasion and empathy
  • Giving/Following & Receiving Instructions – understanding the components of delivering effective oral and written instruction. Seeking feedback and clarification, checking for understanding
  • Using Technology to Communicate – communicating clearly using email, the telephone, Skype & video conferencing and other technologies such as social media, Ted Talks, podcasts, YouTube
  • Giving Effective Oral Presentations – planning & organising an industry-specific presentation, communicating ideas with clarity & precision, using appropriate technology such as Prezi and eBoards, LMS, portals, engaging one’s audience and finally evaluation & reflection
  • Understanding & Writing Technical Reports – unpacking the components of a Technical Report, turning text into tables and tables into text, writing an abstract, summarising Improve your written skills and understand the basic concepts in writing a Technical Report
  • Effective Negotiation and Persuasion – exchanging Information, persuading and compromising and bargaining, closing the deal, the 180 perspectives, achieving  “win win” scenarios
  • Industry Elective – specific attention is paid to the language & vocabulary specific to a client’s industry area or university major/discipline (eg. banking & finance, oil & gas, health services, humanities, social science, education), including industry-specific site visits university visits and networking opportunities with similar level professionals and university academics.

Online English Learning

The online content engages students through a variety of interactive exercises. It provides a stimulating learner-focused environment that aims to improve learning outcomes, drive students motivation and encourages students to become more responsible for their own learning.

 

Demi/Au Pair Program

These programs provide an invaluable opportunity for students to practise speaking English whilst living and working with a local Australian family. Students look after the children and assist with household duties in exchange for meals, their own room and a weekly allowance. The Demi- Pair program allows students to combine full-time study in Perth at the Academy with 15-20 hours of work per week plus babysitting (minimum study period 12 weeks). Students who choose the Au Pair program have the opportunity to study for a minimum of 4 weeks and they can choose either the 15 or 20 hours per week option while studying and can increase to the 30-hour option when their study at Phoenix has finished.

 

Job Club

Western Australia’s thriving economy means there are plenty of employment opportunities. With Job Club, you can fast track your job opportunities and start earning money faster. Job Club is an add on program to any course at the Academy and is available to non- Australian passport holders who want to work whilst in Australia. On arrival, your Job Club Advisor will provide you with an orientation program and assist you to arrange essential items required for work in Australia. Our Job Club Gold offers all the benefits of Job Club PLUS 4 weeks guaranteed paid work (minimum 10 hrs/week).

Access to Phoenix Academy’s Online Self Help Ready to Work Program. Includes information on:

  • Getting a Tax File Number (TFN)
  • Opening a bank account
  • Writing a resume
  • Type of work & wages

Arranged job placement is not part of the standard Job Club program. Students wishing to have job placement provided should enrol in the Job Club Gold program.

 

Internship

This program offers access to skilled/professional work experience in a specific industry segment nominated by the applicant. Internships are normally unpaid however some interns may find employers may be willing to pay them after an initial period of employment. This will depend on the intern’s level of skill and commitment to the job however Phoenix Academy does not make any guarantees with respect to payment.

English for Business Purposes

The international business world requires today’s businessmen and women to speak with confidence and ease, on the telephone, face-to-face, or in written form, with managers, colleagues and clients. This 6-week business English course is designed to enable participants to communicate in English effectively and with confidence in an international business environment. Participants will practise English speaking, listening, reading, writing, pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar within the context of business. They will be exposed to western business practices and notions of cross-culture as they communicate.

Practice communicating in a range of different situations including:

  • Speaking socially
  • Negotiating with clients
  • Giving presentations
  • Speaking in meetings

 

Free English Classes

Phoenix Academy’s Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) course provides training to teach English as a Foreign Language to adults. As part of Phoenix Academy’s ongoing commitment to produce exceptional and qualified English teachers, it is important that they learn within a real-life classroom environment.

Anyone over the age of 18 is invited to our free English classes, whether it is to improve your grammatical skills or for those who have just arrived in Australia and have little understanding of the English language. Seats are limited and cannot be guaranteed.

Students who attend our English class receive a carefully planned lesson covering all aspects of learning English including Reading, Listening, Grammar or Vocabulary, with lots of speaking and fun.
