Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has determined the India-produced Covaxin and Chinese-manufactured BBIBP-CorV vaccines not only protect the vaccinated person but potentially reduce the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission.

The announcement will have significant impacts for the return of students and citizens of China and India as well as countries in the region who have used these vaccines to protect their citizens from COVID-19 AND whose citizens would like to visit Australia.

The two vaccines join Sinovac, Covishield and Janssen vaccines as ones officially recognised by Australia. 

Those who have received two doses of a vaccine at least 14 days apart are considered fully vaccinated 7 days after the second dose (or in the case of the single dose Janssen vaccine, 7 days after the dose).
