Frequently Asked Questions about La Trobe College Australia

General
Q. Why is La Trobe Melbourne (LTM) changing its name?

A. For more than eight years LTM has been an important education partner for La Trobe University, offering students, unable to gain direct entry, with an alternative pathway to degree studies, often with advanced standing (into second year of the degree).
Underpinning the LTM student experience is a close association with the University including on-campus program delivery with access to many services and facilities. LTM’s renaming to La Trobe College Australia signifies a deeper partnership which more closely aligns student identity and experience with La Trobe University. This important development also addresses the confusion in name/location and better describes our operations across multiple cities.
La Trobe College Australia will continue to be available to all domestic and international students, offering a range of courses in Melbourne such as English for further studies, bioscience, business, engineering, health sciences, information technology, media and communications and psychology. In Sydney, our focus will continue to be in business and information technology. There are also a number of La Trobe University courses that we deliver on behalf of La Trobe University such as the Postgraduate Enabling Programs in Business and Information Technology.

Q. When will the new name come take effect?
A. LTM’s renaming as La Trobe College Australia will come into effect on 5 August 2018, with official launch ceremonies planned in the months following. You will notice the website, marketing collateral and all other branded items will begin to transition to the La Trobe College Australia brand from August onward.

Q. Who was consulted about the name change?
A. Prior to the name change, LTM conducted research with sample groups comprised of international education agents, staff and students. The initial inspiration for the name change also came from feedback provided by staff, agents and students.

Q. Will the name change include other changes, such as programs or progression to La Trobe University?
A. No, the name change will not cause any changes to programs or progression. It does signify a closer working relationship with the University and we will increase our collaboration on developing new pathways and a more integrated student experience. Over time, as we launch new initiatives and opportunities we will keep all our students and partners informed.

Q. What is the scope of the La Trobe Melbourne name change?
A. The LTM name change is only a change in trading name to La Trobe College Australia. It is not the creation of a new legal entity and does not change the college’s accreditation or CRICOS code. All LTM’s current contracts and partnerships will not change and will not require renewing. LTM, under its new trading name, also continues to be part of the Navitas group.
