Bond University College Programs
  • General English

The General English program is a communicative course that helps students achieve their English Language proficiency goals in everyday communication.

General English programs commence every 10 weeks throughout the year. Students that are unable to commence at the beginning of a 10-week cycle may commence halfway through at the 6-week point.

Content

Classes are available at six levels graded from Beginner to Advanced, with each level lasting 10 weeks. A wide range of contemporary topics and video materials are used, helping students discover English in the context of the modern world and making the learning process more memorable and engaging.

Active Teach methods are employed using interactive whiteboard tools, DVD, audio, transcripts, dictionary and additional resources encouraging heads up learning.

Program content includes:

  • The discussion of contemporary global issues, providing authenticity and an international perspective.
  • Writing lessons for real life use - emails, letters, reports, etc.
  • Study, Practice, Remember sections which provide integrated language summaries and practice exercises.
  • Clear language aims and objectives linked to CEFR, the global scale for English.
  • Directed self-study sessions and English Lab with feedback functionality and exercises, allowing students greater control of their learning.
  • The Student DVD with audio and video plus transcripts which allows learners to review lessons and catch up if they miss a class.

Assessment

Our General English programs are self-paced, with students assessed on weekly tasks, as well as a final test in week 10 in the four skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, and grammar. Once a student has demonstrated the required competency, they will move up to the next level.

Study schedule

Full-time study involves 25 hours per week.

20 hours of face-to-face tuition and 5 hours of directed self- study and teacher supervised activities.

 

  • English for Academic Purposes

English for Academic Purposes is designed to improve your academic English and study skills so you can enroll in a Bond University or other higher education programs in Australia or internationally. English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is an intensive English language program specifically designed to assist international students wishing to enter Bond University.  The EAP program provides students with the academic language skills required in a university where English is the medium of instruction; these skills include the macro areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking (including pronunciation) as well as critical thinking and research skills.

Content

The EAP program is a full-time program. There are three levels with each level taking one semester (14 weeks) to complete. Bond University College runs three semesters per year so it is possible to complete all three levels within 12 months and transition seamlessly to degree-level studies at Bond University.

  • Level One - 14 weeks/1 semester

Develops language and study skills through planning and writing essays, improving reading speed, learning how to take and organise notes, planning and delivering short speeches and presentations.

  • Level Two - 14 weeks/1 semester

Develops writing skills, research skills for essay writing, text analysis skills and note-taking strategies.

  • Level Three - 14 weeks/1 semester

Concentrates on developing skills in writing reports and essays, note-taking from written and spoken texts, understanding university lectures, research and study skills, arguments and debates.

Assessment

  • Ongoing assignments throughout the semester
  • A mid-semester exam (Week 7)
  • A final exam (Week 14)
  • Students who successfully complete their level will receive a Bond University College certificate.

 

Study schedule

Full-time study involves 25 hours per week, with five of those hours being for independent study and/or individual consultation. Intakes for each EAP level are accepted in January, May and September, in line with Bond University’s academic semesters – holiday periods of 3-5 weeks are allocated between each 14-week semester. This allows you to progress easily into the University’s degree programs when the time comes.
