Saturday 6 November 2021
To support the delivery of essential services across Australia, the Australian Government is now allowing student visa holders to work beyond their usual work hour limits in key sectors.
Relaxation of student visa work limits

Students can now work for more than 40 hours a fortnight if they are employed by an organisation or business in the following areas:

•    Aged care (in an Approved Provider or Commonwealth-funded aged care service provider with a RACS ID or a NAPS ID)
•    A registered National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider
•    Agriculture
•    Tourism and hospitality

Special provisions have also been made for students who work in a supermarket, or associated distribution facility, located in an area impacted by COVID-19 lockdown restrictions for the duration of the lockdown.

•    In addition, students enrolled in a health care related course, who are supporting the health effort against COVID-19, as directed by health officials, will be able to work beyond 40 hours per fortnight.

This temporary measure will be reviewed in the course of managing the COVID-19 outbreak.
