Indicative Skill Level:

Most occupations within this sub-major group require specific qualifications and experience, as outlined below:

In Australia:

  • AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma, or Diploma, or a minimum of three years of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 2)
  • AQF Certificate III with at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV, or a minimum of three years of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)
  • AQF Certificate II or III, or at least one year of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 4)

In New Zealand:

  • NZQF Diploma, or a minimum of three years of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 2)
  • NZQF Level 4 qualification, or a minimum of three years of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)
  • NZQF Level 2 or 3 qualification, or at least one year of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 4)

In some cases, additional experience and/or on-the-job training may be required alongside formal qualifications.

Tasks Include:

  • Caring for and grooming animals
  • Training animals for obedience and competition
  • Assisting Veterinarians during procedures and operations
  • Arranging the supply and storage of flowers, and selecting, trimming, and arranging floral decorations
  • Planning, constructing, and maintaining gardens, parks, and sports surfaces, as well as caring for trees and shrubs
  • Selecting and planting seeds, bulbs, and cuttings in various areas
  • Supervising farming, fishery, and forestry operations, including the maintenance of related infrastructure
  • Overseeing work routines and training workers in the agriculture, horticulture, aquaculture, fisheries, and forestry sectors
  • Undertaking specialized roles within these industries
  • Shearing and classing wool and hair from animals
