Mobile Plant Operators are responsible for operating mobile plant machinery in various industries and sectors across Australia. This occupation involves tasks such as clearing and cultivating land, sowing and harvesting crops, felling trees, moving and excavating rock and soil, moving pallets and containers, and laying roads and railway tracks.

Indicative Skill Level:

Mobile Plant Operators typically possess a level of skill that is commensurate with the qualifications and experience outlined below:

In Australia:

  • AQF Certificate II or III (ANZSCO Skill Level 4)

In New Zealand:

  • NZQF Level 2 or 3 qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 4)

It is important to note that at least one year of relevant experience may be considered as a substitute for the formal qualifications listed above. In some cases, additional on-the-job training and experience may also be required in addition to the formal qualification.

Tasks Include:

  • Driving mobile plant machinery to work sites
  • Operating and maneuvering mobile plant machinery on site
  • Selecting and fitting attachments to the plant machinery
  • Manipulating controls to operate attachments mechanically, hydraulically, and electrically, as well as to move materials
  • Monitoring the operation of the plant machinery directly and by referring to instruments
  • Monitoring the condition of the plant machinery, performing minor repairs, and reporting mechanical faults
